Job Title: Infrastructure Engineer

Salary: £55000 – £75000 + excellent benefits + DV bonus
About the Role
Our client, a leading organisation working within the UK Defence and National Security sector, is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join their on-site technical team based in Gloucester.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a highly skilled environment, supporting mission-critical IT infrastructure and playing a key role in maintaining secure and stable platforms. You'll be involved in everything from incident response to system optimisation, working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day operational support for secure environments, including incident management, change implementation, and routine maintenance
- Deliver approved technical changes in line with customer and project requirements
- Proactively monitor infrastructure to identify and resolve potential issues
- Automate processes to improve efficiency and reduce the risk of human error
- Support the technical lead in managing platform risk and performance
- Apply ITIL v4 principles to support agile and responsive operations
- Support platform upgrades, configuration changes, and service improvements
Key Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Demonstrable experience in IT infrastructure support within a secure, regulated environment, ideally in Defence, National Security, or Government sectors
- Strong hands-on knowledge in several of the following:
- VMware technologies (ESXi, vCenter, NSX, VCF)
- Windows Server administration (AD, DNS, DHCP, PKI)
- Linux system administration
- Backup solutions (e.g. Veeam)
- Containerisation tools (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
- Monitoring tools such as Nagios
- Solid awareness of networking fundamentals and cyber security principles
- Strong documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with the ITIL framework and experience working alongside DevOps or agile delivery teams
Desirable:
- Experience supporting developers working with microservices, container platforms, and service-oriented architectures
- Exposure to public sector delivery or working with UK Government clients
